SUMMARY:Mindful Life Purpose Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever felt truly fulfilled? Think of a time in your life when you were contributing the way you wanted to\, truly making a difference in your life and others? This is the feeling and energy of “life on purpose”. Some call it the reason we’re on this planet. The thing we’re meant to accomplish\, or the gift we’re meant to bring. Life purpose is not about a job or even an avocation. It is the round-the-clock\, twenty-four-hour\, every-day-of-your-life expression of who you are when you are reaching your full potential. You may also know the flip side of this experience – when you are not on purpose\, because it can often come with a feeling of discontent and disconnection. \nThis workshop\, facilitated by trained Coach and Creative Director Jason Levine\, involves a series of mindful visualizations followed by a writing exercise (and facilitation) to help you craft your own Life Purpose Statement. \nMark your calendars and stay tuned for more details!

What do unwellness and wellness actually look and feel like\, especially for students? How do we identify and address our mental health needs? SUMMARY:Book Launch for IntraConnected
DESCRIPTION:Together with Dr. Siegel we will explore the heart of his new book. In his own words: We are in a moment of challenge and transition that invites each of us to reflect on where humanity is going and how we might choose to support cultural evolution toward a more generative way of living together on Earth. By engaging in a conversation about seeing the self as more than just centered in the body—the “solo-self”—we come to see a more integrative identity and broader belonging as including both the inner Me and the inter We in the intraconnected self of MWe. This is what the new book Interconnected is all about.” \nDuring our evening together with Dr. Siegel we will have a chance to hear about the content of the new book\, along with live-community discussion and an opportunity for live Q&A. We encourage attendees to pre-order the book to inform questions you might have. The event will be engaging and relevant for those who have read Dan’s work and those who are new to the conversation. \nRegister for this event here \nDaniel J. Siegel received his medical degree from Harvard University and completed his postgraduate medical education at UCLA with training in pediatrics and child\, adolescent and adult psychiatry. He served as a National Institute of Mental Health Research Fellow at UCLA\, studying family interactions with an emphasis on how attachment experiences influence emotions\, behavior\, autobiographical memory and narrative. \nDr. Siegel is a clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine and the founding co-director of the Mindful Awareness Research Center at UCLA. An award-winning educator\, he is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and recipient of several honorary fellowships. Dr. Siegel is also the Executive Director of the Mindsight Institute\, an educational organization\, which offers online learning and in-person seminars that focus on how the development of mindsight in individuals\, families and communities can be enhanced by examining the interface of human relationships and basic biological processes. His psychotherapy practice includes children\, adolescents\, adults\, couples\, and families. He serves as the Medical Director of the LifeSpan Learning Institute and on the Advisory Board of the Blue School in New York City\, which has built its curriculum around Dr. Siegel’s Mindsight approach. SUMMARY:Hope and Action Amidst Challenging Times
DESCRIPTION:Socially Engaged Buddhism: Hope and Action Amidst Challenging Times \nThis guest panel is taking place as part of the course BPM214: Socially Engaged Buddhism \nJoin our class for a panel discussion and Q&A with senior monastics from Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village centre in France. The session will explore how Engaged Buddhist practices can be applied in the context of our daily lives to cultivate resilience\, hope\, and compassionate action amidst challenging times. \nRegister for this online event here \nSpeakers\nBrother Phap Huu (Abbot Upper Hamlet\, Plum Village) \nBrother Chân Pháp Hữu was ordained as a novice monk on February 7th 2002 in the “Sugar Palm Tree” family. He received full bhikkhu ordination on December 18th 2006\, and the Lamp Transmission as a Dharma Teacher in 2009. He became vice abbot in 2008 and is the abbot of Upper Hamlet since January 2011. \nBr. Pháp Hũu first encountered Thầy and the community as a 9-year-old when he traveled from Canada to Plum Village France in 1996 with his father and sister. He was immediately drawn by the joyous brotherhood and the peaceful comportment of the monks. At the age of 12 he knew then that he wished to become a monk. After much persistence\, his family allowed him to realize this wish at the age of 13. \nTrue to his name\, and despite the age difference\, Br. Pháp Hũu became a dear friend to Thầy. He is often by Thầy’s side as an attendant\, sharing moments filled with love\, laughter\, tears\, and inspiration. \nAs an abbot\, Br. Pháp Hũu takes his time to connect with and understand his monastic and lay brothers. He is much appreciated as a skillful facilitator at Sangha gatherings. His favorite practices are walking meditation and organizing retreats in Plum Village. He is interested in team building\, coaching\, and mentoring. When playing\, Br. Pháp Hũu loves basketball and music. \nListen to Brother Phap Huu’s Podcast “The Way Out Is In” \nBrother Phap Linh (senior monastic Dharma Teacher\, Upper Hamlet\, Plum Village) \nBrother Phap Linh was ordained as a monk in Plum village in February 2008. Before becoming a monk\, he studied at Cambridge then worked as a composer\, a chef and a math tutor in London. As a layperson\, he frequently attended retreats in Plum Village. Meeting Thich Nhat Hanh for the first time in 1999\, he began to see that mindfulness practice could present a real way out of the current situation of suffering for humanity. Becoming a monk eventually presented itself as the most powerful way to actively and positively engage with the suffering as we collectively face\, including climate change\, economic instability\, and war. Helping to provide a place of refuge for people to come and learn about mindfulness and living in the community are now his principal sources of joy. \nWatch Brother Phap Linh’s COP26 Countdown Talk
